Dr. Brian Zelt of Zelcan Psychological is pleased to provide a private practice in Southwest Calgary at the Jack Fair Clinic at 2266 Woodpark Avenue SW.  Dr. Zelt is graciously accepting new clients for evening appointments at this time including individual adult, children, adolescents, parents and families. Dr. Zelt is a Registered Psychologist and a Ph.D. graduate from the University of Calgary and has provided counselling and treatment supports to his clients for over 12 years. A brief description of the types of issues and areas of concern Dr. Zelt works with in his private practice are as follows:

 Individual Adults:

Dr. Zelt helps individual adults in the counselling and treatment of a variety of issues including work and life stress, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, anger managementself-esteem, life transitions, education and career pursuits, and grief and lossDr. Zelt further assists adult individual clients in managing a variety of relationship difficulties including self-confidence and social skills while dating, effective communication, conflict resolution, relationship stress and breakdown, separation and divorce, infidelity, as well as adult parents, siblings, and other family dynamics.

Children, Adolescents, Parents and Families:

Dr. Zelt works equally with children and adolescents in dealing with depression, anxietylow self-esteem, peer acceptance and friendships, bullying, separation and divorce, blended families, drug and alcohol useschool and legal difficulties and other mental health concerns.  Dr. Zelt  also helps parents and families cope with parent-child conflict, separation and divorce, blended families, grief and loss, and behavioral issues and parenting strategies associated with oppositionality and defiance (ODD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD) at home, school, and in the community.

Referral Information and Costs:

Dr. Zelt actively encourages self and family referrals as well as referrals from family physicians, pediatricians or any other mental health professionals interested in his counselling and therapeutic services.

Dr. Zelt works on a fee-for-service capacity based on guidelines developed by the Psychologists' Association of Alberta.  Individual and family therapy are provided by Dr. Zelt at $160.00 per hour and $170.00 per hour respectively.  Clients with third-party payers such Alberta Blue Cross for example, may also be eligible for reimbursement based on Dr. Zelt's status as a Registered Psychologist.

Career and Education Background:

Dr. Brian Zelt has worked in a number of treatment settings including private practice, residential treatment for at-risk youth and their families, and an Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) located in Downtown Calgary. Dr. Zelt is presently the Clinical Director of the Safe Directions Programs for multi-risk youth and their families at Hull Child and Family Services.

 Dr. Zelt received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Alberta, his M.A. in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota, Duluth and his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Calgary.  Dr. Zelt is registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a member of the Psychologists' Association of Alberta.

Therapeutic Style and Approaches:

Dr. Zelt's therapy style while working with clients has been described as a mixture of "thoughtful common sense" with a committed level of "care and concern" for the enhancement and well-being of others.
