Personal Thoughts of Jason Slemko, Registered Psychologist

How we feel about ourselves is in a large part determined by the breadth and depth of our self and other awareness.  Our experience establishes our view of ourselves, others and the world.  As we and the world inevitably change, we are at times unable or unwilling to manage the differences, resulting in suffering.

Therapy affords the us an opportunity to challenge our views of self, others and the world in ways not available in other forums.  Through therapy, we are encouraged to see how we are strong, and use those strengths to make positive change.

Identifying strengths to approach life's more difficult problems is a personal and individual process, most of the time requiring a shift in our usual pattern of thinking or behaving.  An objective and confidential person to assist in clarification and discovery is a direct approach to effective change.

Regardless of how well or poorly be believe ourselves to be in managing our lives, there are opportunities for growth and a deepening of our experience.  Most often we seek therapy when life becomes overwhelming and consequently emtionally painful.  These times often create opportunities for change and heighten motivation to alter ones direction otherwise unconsidered.  Capitalizing on these opportunities creates new hope and better relationships.  Clients typically feel empowered by therapy.

Understanding onself is a never ending process as we change and move through our many stages of life.  We are open to new perspectives that support healthier views of past and present problems.
