PERSONAL THOUGHTS – SOPHIA LANG, M.A.

Life is tough.  It is not easy being human.  Periods of time when life proceeds smoothly are interrupted by times of turmoil when getting through each day is a challenge.  These challenges arise from various sources: from within as we grow and develop, from the push-pull of interpersonal relationships, from workplace pressures, illness or myriad other life stressors.  They bring with them varying degrees of emotional confusion and pain.  Old coping strategies and ways of being may not be adequate to face these new and different challenges.  We may be called to develop new ways of being in the world.

When you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, afraid, anxious, sad, hopeless or stuck, it is a wise decision to unburden yourself to a therapist.  It is a common, mistaken temptation to look around and compare your insides (your emotional turmoil) with other people’s outsides (the masks they show the world).  It is far better to seek help.

My role as a counsellor/therapist is to listen deeply, accept and perhaps normalize your experience, offer varying doses of support, new perspectives and challenges.

Beyond those basic healing skills, I offer more specialized skills. Please read the About Me section of this website to learn about those.

Over the years, I have been deeply moved and inspired by my clients, by their stories of courage and resilience.  I consider it a privilege to do the work I do and I have learned so much from my clients about the human spirit.

I wish for my clients that which I wish for myself: the ability to give and receive love with an open heart, integrity, the strength to face truth, acceptance of our own responsibilities, the courage to fulfill our commitments, wisdom, healthy families, and richer connections with others.
